![]() So, I am really questioning the reason why he wrote 80. He wrote me the ticket and when he gave me the ticket he told me, "I wrote you the ticket for going over 65." Which I thought was OK until I noticed he wrote 80 in the "Speed Approximate" block. He asked me if I knew how fast I was going and I (maybe I shouldn't have) told him I was going 70-75. He waited for me to get next to him and then he got behind me and pulled me over. When I saw him doing that I starter to move to my right and kept lowering my speed. ![]() As the 4 cars got closer to him he lowered the gun and rushed to get inside his cruiser and turned on his lights, he starter merging from the median onto the #1 lane. ![]() I was in the process of or had already moved to the #2 lane when I noticed the 2nd CHP officer standing next to his cruiser with the radar gun. Another thing is that my first instinct, as soon as I saw the 1st officer, was to slow down and also switch from the #1 to the #2 lane. He said, "if we had been going over 80-85 he would had pulled you or one of the other guys over". My co-worker told me, I wouldn't worry about anything because he didn't stop anybody and we are going 75. I looked at my co-worker (sitting in the passenger seat) and I made a comment to him about the fact the guy was standing outside his cruiser in the median with the radar gun. When I saw the 1st officer I looked at my speedometer and I was doing 75. The 1st officer was clearly measuring our speed (there were 4 cars - including mine) in the #1 and #2 lanes at the time. As a matter of fact, in that 1-mile stretch of highway they were 2 CHP officers stopped in the freeway median with radar (lidar) guns. Well, here is the thing, I say it troubles me that the officer wrote 80 because I know for a fact I wasn't going more that 75 - with the flow of traffic at the time which, was basically the presumed safe speed for the time of day and road conditions. This is the type of citation that has "traffic school" written all over it. Furthermore, your claim that you were only at 75 but not 80 is not going to get you anywhere since both, 75 AND 80 are in excess of the maximum speed limit of 65 and both carry the same fine amount. Im not sure why the officer's speed estimate woukd trouble you as Lidar is typically accurate to about +/- 1 mph. I had two other vehicles next/near me and we were all going at pretty much the same speed, it was pretty much "the flow of traffic" at the time in that area.Īctually, no I don't have any thoughts and I am not aware of anyone who would realistically believe anyone would have any reasonable chance of beating this citation. I thought it could had been something related to the distance given by the lidar unit.īTW, do you or anyone has any thoughts on the likelihood of getting this citation dismissed? I have been reading some articles and posts on the net about the lidar units and, according to the posts it is almost impossible to make an argument against a lidar reading but, what troubles me is that the officer wrote I was doing approximately 80 MPH when I know for a fact I wasn't going more than 75.
